Understanding Teen Patti Hand Ranks

In skill-based Teen Patti, played with a standard 52-card deck among 2 to 6 players, knowing which hands beat which is essential. The game rewards strategic thinking and careful observation — and it all starts with memorising the card sequences.

Below are the five winning hand ranks, ordered from strongest to weakest. When two players hold the same type of hand, the one with higher-ranking cards wins.

Rank Hand Also Known As Description
1 Trail Three of a Kind, Trio Three cards of the same rank. The highest possible hand — three Aces is the strongest Trail.
2 Pure Sequence Straight Flush, Pakki Round Three consecutive cards of the same suit. A-K-Q of the same suit is the highest Pure Sequence.
3 Sequence Straight, Round Three consecutive cards of mixed suits. A-2-3 is the lowest Sequence; A-K-Q is the highest.
4 Colour Flush Three cards of the same suit, not in sequence. Compared by the highest card, then second, then third.
5 Pair Two of a Kind Two cards of the same rank plus one unmatched card. The lowest-ranked winning hand.

How Hands Are Compared

When two or more players stay in until the showdown, hands are compared by rank first. If both players hold the same type of hand — for example, both have a Colour — the winner is determined by the highest individual card. If the highest cards match, the second-highest card decides, and so on.

In the rare case that all three cards are identical in rank (possible when suits differ), the pot is split. A-2-3 is treated as the lowest possible Sequence, while A-K-Q is the highest.

Quick Reference: What Beats What

  • Trail beats everything — it's the strongest hand in the game.
  • Pure Sequence beats a regular Sequence, Colour, and Pair.
  • Sequence beats Colour and Pair, but loses to Trail and Pure Sequence.
  • Colour beats only a Pair and high-card hands.
  • Pair is the weakest winning hand — it only beats a high-card hand with no combination.

If no player holds any of the above combinations, the hand with the highest single card wins.
